PROJECT DESIGN

Diversity Educators Sharing in a Global Network
The Mission of Project DESIGN
Through Project DESIGN, the College of Education at Athens State University (ASU) endeavors to connect diverse local, state, national, and international pre-service teachers through the use of web-based tools and teleconferencing networks.  ASU appreciates and respects cultural differences, values intercultural collaboration, and realizes the potential of globally shared knowledge in public school classrooms.

The Vision for Project DESIGN
The genesis of making global connections between and among pre-service teachers begins with Project DESIGN.  With support from Apple Computer, Inc., the College of Education at Athens State University is providing a medium by which diverse pre-service educators all over the world can collaborate to improve teaching and learning.

Methodology
By using the broadband public Internet, Project DESIGN will use
technology to increase opportunities for diverse groups of
pre-service teachers to collaborate.  The technologies to
be implemented include:

Real-time group and individual text chatting
Live audio chat
Live teleconferences using off-the-shelf computer technology
Podcasting and Web-based “best practices” videos
Web journals and portfolios
Document and resource sharing
Photo slide shows
Discussion boards
Nationally-focused meetings and conferences
